Gaazh
My man told me he rescued a baby kitten from the busy road in front of our place earlier in the evening. The mother cat was hit by a car and she must've been carrying the baby in her mouth and it flew into traffic. My man took it out of harm's way and put it in our yard. When I got home an hour later he asked what we should do with it. I could tell by the way he said it that he wasn't comfortable with leaving it outside in the first place. So I said we should take it in then went to grab the kitten who was crying and moving close to the carcass of it's dead mother, her eyeballs out of the sockets from being squished. How sad!
I put the lil one in the pocket of my coat and we drove to my sister's to see if she had a dropper so we could try feeding it. It wouldn't drink the lactose free milk she had so we came back home and did a little google search and found that we needed special formula for kittens. So my man went to Walmart to look and he came back with the formula and a feeding bottle.
The kitten wouldn't eat and didn't the time it was with us. It's eyes were still shut and it moved around crying. I think it was searching for it's mother because it really liked my man's whiskers.
We made the decision to drop it off at the humane society because they know more than we do and the chances for survival would be greater if the kitten was in their hands.
I didn't get my meat browned and bread dough done until around 4 AM! My man stayed up and helped me out while caring for the kitten.
When I picked it up and held it I thought I felt something on the underside and I assumed it was a boy. Then my niece pointed out that it still had "the cord thing to it" (umbillical cord) I saw that it was a girl.
Saturday before the powwow, my man took her to the humane society and they said she was only 2-3 days old. He asked if we could adopt her if she grew stronger and older and they said if she survived then we could. So they took our number and asked for a name for the cat and he told them "Gaazh", short for Gaazhagens aka "cat" in Ojibwe language. (yeah yeah I know most of the people who read my blog know this but there is a chance that others who don't may come across my blog and wonder)
I hope she makes it. They said she was without food for awhile so there's a chance she didn't. I should call and ask them or perhaps go in and see.
Here are some pics of her:
