MacBook Problem

I went to turn my MacBook on yesterday and a gray screen with a flashing folder icon with a question mark on it came up. I had to dig my owner's manual out and troubleshoot all day but nothing helped or worked. Then I fired up our Compaq and tried the Apple Support site then I googled the problem and searched forums and tried all the suggestions I could find.

So now it comes to this: wipe everything out and reinstall Mac OS X or send it in and hope they can repair it while saving my files. I had past semesters worth of work in there and would hate to see that go. Not to mention my iTunes! I know I should have backed my important files up some time ago but I guess I trusted that the Mac wouldn't give me much problems. Oh well you've got to live and learn (as that Joe Public song goes)

I can't access anything or even get to the login screen. I wonder if everything IS all gone but I just don't know it. I should call the 800 #. I'll know more if I call there and if it has to go in the shop.

It sucks.
